GUT RESTORATION —
IMPROVE MICROBIOME + DIGESTION
Disruptive symptoms associated with digestive imbalances can significantly interfere with your quality of life. Frequent, unpleasant occurrence of bloating, belly distention, belching, flatulence, and general discomfort can indicate imbalance of gut bacteria and sensitivity to certain food and/or food chemicals. If you've experienced these undesirable symptoms or have been diagnosed with IBS without having the root cause identified and treated appropriately (i.e. were prescribed laxatives, antacids, or antispasmodics as a band-aid), this approach is appropriate for you! Below you'll find my recommended programs, supplements, and advanced functional labs to help you achieve your gut and digestive-related health goals!

ADVANCED FUNCTIONAL LABS
One of the best ways to identify the root cause of disruptions in digestion is to have a stool test. This type of test assesses inflammation, leaky gut, malabsorption, and the microbiome. The Comprehensive Stool Analysis looks at the strains of bacteria and yeast in the gut (the good, the bad, the neutral) as well as their end products of fermentation as short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate. The stool test also looks at clinical markers of inflammation including calprotectin (the primary disease marker for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases). It can also identify if you have an imbalance of bacterial flora in the large intestine, assess for H. Pylori and other pathogens, parasites, Candida overgrowth, or issues with digestion and malabsorption. Beyond defining what is living in the bowel or GI tract, this panel digs into the elements of optimal digestion assessing enzymes, bile, pH, undigested fat, fiber, and protein.
If the test identifies that you have a low secretory IgA (positive for leaky gut), your digestive distress is likely related to unknown food sensitivity reaction(s), or you are also dealing with inflammation or autoimmune activity. The Mediator Release Test (MRT) food sensitivity panel is the best entry point. This blood test is the only food sensitivity panel on the market that looks at results based on the inflammatory response in your body. Many food panels look simply at immunological tagging (IgG) that can often yield a false positive, the MRT test looks at 170 foods and chemicals and takes both IgG type 3 and 4 along with the presence of inflammatory chemicals (interleukins, cytokines, prostaglandins, etc.) to assess reactivity response. The MRT panel is used as a GPS of your body where you will remove moderate reactions for 3 months and significant reactions for 6 months while limiting diet to known non-reactive foods, then progressing with an elimination diet reentry approach. As you heal the gut lining with specific supplement regimen and food-as-medicine you will become more resilient and less reactive to foods, creating symptom resolution and long-term food freedom.
